Tipping Points 4 Selling Your Home

  • I’m often asked the question, “What do I need to do to prepare my house to sell?”  Before you spend thousands of dollars needlessly, here are a few tips that will help your house show well and stand out from the competition.
The familiar adage “You only have once to make a good first impression” holds true when selling your home.  I’ve had clients refuse to go inside a house because the yard and exterior looked messy and neglected.  Cleanliness and neatness go a long way.  Think how you feel when your home is clean and everything is in its rightful place.  You have that settled and “I can finally breathe” feeling.  Prospective buyers will have the same reaction.  Bathrooms and kitchens need to be “white glove” clean.  This is also a good time to remove excess clutter.  Not only will your rooms appear more spacious, the buyer will be able to envision their belongings in the room and not be so distracted by yours.
Odors, whether from cooking or pets, are a HUGE turnoff to buyers.  There are some great products which can help.  Try using air filters to freshen the air and avoid anything that has a strong perfume scent which draws more attention and can be a problem for people with allergies!
Before repainting, if your walls are clean and neutral, try adding punches of color with throw pillows and wall art.
